How To Deep Clean And Disinfect Your Dishwasher For Less Than $1.00

How clean is your dishwasher????? If you have cleaned your filters within the last month, congratulations, you are amoungst the minority that are doing the right thing. I am happy to admit that I am happily fill the dishwasher and hit the on button and walk away until the cycle is finished! But the ugly truth is that all the nasty bits that come off your dishes unless they are rinsed spotlessly clean gets caught up in the miriad of filters (my dishlex has 7 pieces that come out and can be cleaned) that they really harbour germs and nasties so a deep clean is a great thing to do for cleaner dishes!

I keep forgetting to add the supermarket one to the shopping list, and I honestly think what they charge for them is ridiculous, so a little research and testing later, I now have a dishwasher that looks as good as they day it was installed and I had everything I needed in the pantry/laundry. You CAN do yours tonight.

Firstly empty the machine and remove all possible filters/attachments and give them a gentle hand wash in hot soapy water. Return them to the rightful place. A good tip is too wash one piece at a time and lay them out in the order you removed them. I do remember a long time ago I had trouble putting the jigsaw puzzle of pieces back in their rightful spots and had to ring dishlex and get them to email me the manual!!!!

When everything is back in place, in a glass or metal bowl, combine 1/2 cup of Bicarbonate of Soda, 1/2 cup of Salt and 1 cup of Bleach. Combine with a metal spoon and pour into the base of the dishwasher, I used an old dishbrush that I had to distribute this all around the base. Close the door and leave overnight, time for bed! First thing in the morning, put the machine through a wash cycle and when that is complete you end up with this…….

No excuses, do it tonight, so worth it!!!!!!
